The new door handle doesn’t fucking fit. God damn it. Lock cylinder retainer is all wrong. Son of a bitch.
EDIT: oh I guess I never gave context. My fucking door handle snapped off. $100 used for one on eBay. Got this one from someone on facebook for $40 but I guess it’s from a prefacelift UCF20 so now I get to spend the $100 anyways yaaaaaay
And no, there are none in junkyards locally.

I’m assuming it’s all swaged together so you can’t swap the retainer
over?

And if you think about it, someone put extra money into retooling and manufacturing that piece for the model change . So everybody paid extra from the very beginning.

I’m very amused by how half-assed the retool is. Just one extra extrusion, don’t even get rid of the old one. Which I guess means they were able to modify their existing molds instead of making new ones... clever girl. I still don’t see why the change was necessary.

Run a search on pick and pull's website and set the zip code to 98204. If you get any hits, let me know and I'll try to get it for you.

It is very un-toyota-like to change a part which is working well.

Are you talking about the highighted area below being wrong? I’think about drilling it out and tapping it or putting a pop rivit in to hold the retainer.
Or how about using a screw with an oversized washer to hold down the retainer and locktightening the screw in?

1993 was first generation. Second generation started 96, then was facelifted in 98.

Damn Son, I wish someone had told you to make sure you get one from your g eneration/year. Lots of small changes, even between a 97-98. Tail lights are even different, slightly. Also early 98's have old loud steering wheel motors, newer 98-00's have whisper quiet motors

Yeah i have the older steering column motors. Thank god. I can rebuild these can motors if/when they break, those ultrasonic motors leave you SOL when they break.
I just looked back into the conversation with the guy i bought them from and the year never really entered the equation. It was a UCF20 and the right color so I thought I was good to go.

I knew very little going into buying my 1997. C heck out the C lublexus forums, they are very informative and active for these old LS’s

Do you know if it’s possible to retrofit the newer motors to a 97?

Well being that they still used the 95-97 motor system on early 98 cars, its possible the ultrasonic motors will bolt into an early 98 car. I haven’ t personally ever heard of anyone doing such a retrofit
